Museums and Galleries

T
he Oates Museum at Gilbert White's House, Selborne, commemorates Captain Lawrence Oates who died with Scott on the famous ill fated south Pole expedition, and Frank Oates one of the first Europeans to reach Victoria Fails. Also in Selborne you will find the Selborne Gallery, where the 'Mouth and Foot Painters' exhibit their work.

The Curtis Museum, Alton, chronicles local history and has a collection of toys, dolls and games, while its sister The Allen Gallery, close by, houses a superb collection of decorative arts, including pottery, ceramics and tiles from all over the world.

Nearby Alresford boasts a number of galleries, including the Bay Tree Gallery, the Eastern Arts Gallery and the Long Gallery.

In Petersfield you will find the Flora Twort Gallery, which is devoted to this artist's paintings and drawings and provides a delightful record of Petersfield between the wars.
